Don't suffer in Silence!.. If you have been a witness or a victim of islamophobic and/or racist abuse in the Brighton & Hove area, don't keep quiet about it. Report it as soon as possible to us. Racist & islamophobic abuse (hatred & violence against someone because they are or look Muslim) is considered a crime punishable by law in the UK. Over the last few months we have heard many comments by politicians and the Media that we Muslims have a victim mentality & that there is no problem of islamophobia. The reason they are able to claim that is because there is not enough evidence of islamophobic crime being reported to the authorities. Make it a habit to record the time, day and place of the incident ready to be reported. Dutch psychologist on the benefits of reciting the Qur'an 6/16/2004 2:22:00 PM GMT courtesy of http://www.islamonline.com In a new study, Vander Hoven, a psychologist from The Netherlands, discovered the effect of reading the Qur'an and repeating the word Allah both on patients and on normal persons. The Dutch professor confirms his discovery with studies and research applied on many patients over a period of three years. Some of his patients were non-Muslims, others don't speak Arabic and were trained to pronounce the word "Allah" clearly; their result was great, specially on those who suffer from dejection and tension. Al-Watan, a Saudi daily has reported that the psychologist was quoted to say that Muslims who can read Arabic and who read the Qur'an regularly are enjoying a great chance of protecting themselves from psychological diseases. BHMF visit Ground Zero in New York The Brighton & Hove Muslim Forum has returned from a very successful visit to New York where we represented the people of Brighton and Hove. 1- At the UN HQ, the BHMF took part in discussions on International Migration and Development. The BHMF helped to formulate a number of papers that were discussed at the full session of UN on 12th July. 2- The BHMF met with the team of Kings County District Attorney, Charles J. Hynes. Here we discussed matters that may benefit our community of Brighton and Hove. We looked at their impressive record on crime reduction and the role their own community has played in this. The BHMF hopes to work closely with our own Crown Prosecution Service in order to see what part it may be able to play in improving things within Brighton and Hove? 3- The BHMF also held meetings with community officers from the NYPD (New York Police Department) and discussed their part in reducing crime in the state of New York.
